The Back Forty will transform the alley and vacant lots behind Popps Emporium and neighboring houses along Carpenter Street into a green corridor with a chain of community studios and a community garden. Working closely with our neighbors, we will build new structures and modify existing backyard garages and sheds into a variety of art studios including a tool lending library, ceramic studio, greenhouse, woodshop, and more.
We will begin activating the space with workshops and other events beginning this spring. Please join our newsletter to stay up to date on events.
The Back Forty is funded in part through the generous support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Erb Foundation, and Detroit Future City, Working with Mini Lots Program.
