Camp Carpenter Summer Residency in July!

Camp Carpenter invites applications for its artist residency program, located within the vibrant community of Popps Packing. This unique opportunity offers artists the chance to engage with youth aged 7-14 in a creative outdoor adventure camp during the last two weeks of July.

About Camp Carpenter:
Camp Carpenter is an innovative outdoor camp where youth collaborate with professional, local, and visiting artists to explore various art practices. Participants have the freedom to create, build, make, paint, sew, and perform under the guidance of skilled mentors. Our focus is on nurturing individual creativity and empowering young artists to realize their visions.

We seek a practicing studio artist with a passion for education and a commitment to fostering the next generation of artistic talent. The ideal candidate should possess:

– Experience in building and working with tools.
– Strong organizational skills for managing materials and facilitating creative projects.
– Proficiency in 3D sculptural techniques and working with diverse materials.
– Sewing skills are a plus, as participants often enjoy creating outfits and costumes.

Candidates should also be comfortable working with youth from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Residency Details:
The selected artist is expected to work +/-20 hours per week during camp (last 2 weeks of July) weeks and +/- 10 hours the week leading up to camp to help prep and set up. Artist will also be expected to attend 1 casual staff orientation meeting/meal with the Camp team ahead of the camp. the residency Fee will be waived for the Camp Carpenter Resident. This arrangement can also be modified and renegotiated on a case by case basis.   Artists will reside on-site at Popps Packing, enjoying a private bedroom in a 2-bedroom loft-style warehouse space with shared studio, kitchen, and bath facilities.

In additioan to the shared studio space the residency includes access to workshops, gardens, resident chickens, a mobile sauna, and various outdoor spaces for exploration and artistic interventions.

File Size: 10 MB maximum
Naming: ‘Collaborative or Full Name_(year)residency ’
Work samples should include CV/Resume and one of the following submissions:
STILL IMAGES: ​​up to 10​ still images (JPEG, max 1200 pixels on any side). Each image should have a caption of ​2​00 characters or less​ that includes title, date created, medium and any other information that informs the work​
TIME-BASED: URLs to specific work on host sites (Vimeo, YouTube, Soundcloud, etc.). Each URL should have a caption of 2​00 characters or less, which provides parameters to limit reviewers experience to approx. 5 min of work and gives context to the piece.

FOR COLLABORATIVE APPLICATIONS:

If you intend to do only collaborative projects, apply using one application with all names and samples of your past collaborative projects. If you intend to mix personal projects with collaborative projects, apply individually.
