The Carpenter Creative Corridor (CCC) is a decentralized community art school along the north Hamtramck/Detroit border. The Carpenter Creative Corridor is a partnership between us and our neighbors, friends and collaborators:  The Hinterlands and Playhouse Laboratories, Ceramics School, Shanna Mauritzi (DIY Film workshops) and the Bangla School of Music. Together we offer ongoing free public art classes for all.

16MM FILM WORKSHOPS:

During this intensive 4-day workshop taught by Mothlight Microcinema and Shanna Maurizi you can expect to learn the basic functions of how to operate a 16mm Bolex camera; you will have the opportunity to shoot black and white film with the Bolex, hand process the film, and make handmade titles to splice onto the reel. We will also transfer the footage to a digital file and share it at a later public screening.

CERAMICS SCHOOL is a community art school and artist residency located in Hamtramck, MI – an extraordinary two square mile city within the city of Detroit. Our classes, memberships, residencies, studio access, and public programs offer a safe, supportive, critical, and communal platform for art making and education.

THE HINTERLANDS is a Detroit-based company creating performances and public events that are equal parts playful and surreal. In addition to thier own performance work, The Hinterlands run Play House Laboratories – a neighborhood-embedded artist-run organization supporting artistic training, experimentation, and collaboration in performing arts and adjacent fields.  Their work integrates performance practices into the daily life of the community, creating public events that facilitating  exchanges of experiences.

Guest Artist: Shanna Maurizi- Shanna Maurizi is an artist and filmmaker. Her work is experimental in nature and spans photography, sculpture, expanded cinema and film.
